No wonder Republicans want to accuse everyone else of committing voter fraud. The accusation of “voter fraud’ is something Republicans like to use as a weapon to enact more voting restrictions on Democrats. It’s a vile method for suppressing the vote, mostly for Democrats of all colors and sizes. Republicans really don’t want people to vote if those people don’t vote for Republicans.

Meanwhile, special counsel Jack Smith has issued a bunch of new supoenas and is going after all those money schemes Trump launched after the 2020 election. All that money from the Trump schemes went to Trump himself and to his lawyers. This means his followers are, as we already knew, a bunch of gullible, stupid dupes. And if you don’t know this yet, you need to know who these people are: they aren’t poor “overlooked” people from the Midwest. They are rich fuckers who throw their money at a billionaire just to “own the libs”. They are the worst people in America.
The story largely was buried, but its scope is vast and encyclopedic. From the Washington Post, which did not hype this story anywhere near as much as it deserved.
The subpoena seeks any communications or information about Dominion and Smartmatic, two voting technology companies that were subjected to a barrage of false conspiracy theories floated by advisersto President Donald Trump. That request seems designed to gather what campaign officials might have been saying privately at the time Trump backers were publicly disparaging those firms in the wake of Joe Biden’s 2020 victory.

The subpoena shows the Justice Department is interested in other Trump entities besides the Save America PAC — which The Post and others reported last year was a subject of inquiry by investigators. It seeks “all documents and communications” related to a panoply of other Trump-affiliated groups, including the Make America Great Again PAC, the Save America Joint Fundraising Committee and the Trump Make America Great Again Committee.

Recipients were also asked for documents related to the genesis of an “Election Defense Fund,” an entity that Trump officials created to raise money from grass-roots donors after the election. Officials later testified to the House committee investigating the events of Jan. 6, 2021, that such a fund never technically existed but was a mechanism to generate funds from people who believed and were outraged by Trump’s false election-fraud claims.
In other words, Smith is looking at the whole sprawling, festering vista of criminality, from seditious conspiracy, to slander and libel, to common, run-of-the-mill Trumping. Questions abound. Did any of these entities pay to suborn perjury before various investigations, including the January 6 committee? Did the former president* treat the money that came in ostensibly to fight “election fraud” as a petty cashbox?
And also this: “Separately, several lawyers involved in the investigation said the Jan. 6 grand jury had accelerated its activities in recent weeks, bringing in a rapid-fire series of witnesses, both high and low level”

Eventually, Trump will be prosecuted. Yes, it’s just a matter of time. It’s hard to be patient, especially when you can see how fast Brazilian authorities are arresting thousands of people for their own Insurrection (on January 8th), but our justice system will ultimately get there. I still predict Trump will be in jail before the next election. I hope I’m right.
