The Next Coup Attempt May Succeed

Republicans are busy all across the country trying to steal the next election. They are disguising their efforts with some minimal voter suppression efforts, so that is all the media talks about, and it’s working. The media focused in on handing out water to voters and cutting down drop box access incessantly. When Georgia passed its new voting laws, the media made it sound like Jim Crow 2.0 was back with the help of several politicians, including Joe Biden! The actual aim of these “election integrity” laws is much worse than a lack of water to voters in line, and drop boxes. The goal is to literally steal the next election for Republicans when they lose the midterm elections – as they should, and probably will. These voter suppression laws are not Jim Crow 2.0, they are Republican Authoritarianism. And most of them are written by two anti-democratic groups: Heritage Action and ALEC.

Their goal is to literally end democratic elections in the United States. The next test of their evil end-game is the Midterms next year. The next coup attempt in 2024 may succeed.

“The continuing effort to throw sand in the eyes of history — to gaslight the American people about what happened that day — is a thundering alarm about the future of America’s democracy,” wrote Frida Ghitis. “When a country has just lived through a coup attempt, it should urgently, honestly, examine what occurred … Trump and many of his backers maliciously insist the election was stolen. If they have their way, the next coup attempt may not fail.

By the way, the drop boxes of 2020 were certainly convenient for voters in Georgia, but up until the 2020 elections Georgia had never used drop boxes. That was the first time. So keeping them in buildings instead of outside is still a net-plus for voters who want to use drop boxes, since before 2020 they didn’t exist.
