Huge Energy Disappointment from Biden

There has been a strange development in climate change news and energy news. President Biden has given us a huge disappointment in his energy policy and decided to give Vladimir Putin a huge political victory.

“WASHINGTON — The Biden administration has decided to waive sanctions against the company overseeing the construction of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to Germany, despite bipartisan opposition in Congress and appeals from Eastern European governments.

Republican lawmakers immediately accused the administration of handing Russian President Vladimir Putin a major political victory. Democrats urged the White House to reconsider, and the Kremlin called the news a “positive signal.”

The State Department announced the decision in a report to Congress. The move was first reported by Axios.”

From NBC News

This fossil fuels pipeline should not be allowed. The IEA said recently in a new report that new fossil fuels should not be mined or used, in order to stick to agreed-upon climate change goals.

The G7 countries set new climate change goals recently that were very ambitious. We will never reach those goals with new fossil fuels pipelines being approved, especially not approved by a country [the US] that is claiming to be setting the standard by  “leading the world” in fighting climate change. I hope this doesn’t mean that with Biden, like with other presidents, fighting climate change is just a lot of promises and words. The bottom line: waiving Russian sanctions for a fossil fuels pipeline was a big mistake on the part of President Biden.

As did a lot of other Congressmen and women. This is a bipartisan bad idea. I hope President Biden reverses this misguided and bad for the planet pipeline decision.
