Matt Schlapp, hypocrite extraordinaire and head organizer of CPAC, a Republican “family values” man with an apparent human female wife, is apparently a sexual assaulter of men. [and update: Schlapp is now being sued by his victim]
Schlapp’s male victim, who was an aide to the Herschel Walker campaign assigned to drive Matt Schlapp around, claims, “Schlapp “grabbed my junk and pummeled it at length”, which sounds very British to me. In America, dirty old Republican men just grab crotches and breasts and pull and grope, don’t they? “Pummel” sounds almost like “fisticuffs”, a sort of old-fashioned word you’d expect to see in Prince Harry’s book. In any case, this was sexual assault.
Matt Schlapp, a gross, pink slime-colored, old Republican man who looks like he’s bursting out of his suits (in the abdominal area, not the groin area) from eating bacon all day, is going to lose his job, along with George Santos, (hopefully). Sexual assault is a crime. I know Donald Trump got away with it numerous times, but that’s because he threatened all his victims (like Harvey Weinstein) and they were paid off and signed NDAs, which are actually unconstitutional. People – stop signing NDAs.
This assault story was out last week, when I first read it on Daily Beast and then Salon. Then it disappeared over the weekend, and today I heard it covered for the first time on CNN. Not exactly quick on the take with stories critical of old Republican perverts, but at least they are covering it. This story should grow exponentially in the next few days.
Having just watched the excellent movie “She Said“, (it’s on Peacock if you have that streaming service) I think it’s clear we have to take stories of sexual assault very seriously, no matter who they come from. Obviously, some Republican politicians and Congressmen, and obviously at least one US Senator are closeted gay men. Some of them can’t really keep their hands off other men, even straight men, and that compulsion leads in some cases to crimes being committed. The really disgusting part of it is the power imbalance – the Walker aide having no power, Schlapp having a ton – which was a big theme in the movie She Said.
It’s likely that soon we will see this ex-Walker aide interviewed and an investigation will be opened. For now, he remains unnamed.
From Salon:
Far-right MAGA Republican and former football star Herschel Walker was among the Donald Trump-backed candidates who suffered defeat in the 2022 midterms. Walker ran what his critics believe was an incredibly flawed U.S. Senate campaign in Georgia, ultimately losing to Democratic incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock in a runoff election.
Matt Schlapp was one of the GOP activists who fought hard to save Walker’s doomed campaign. Now, according to the Daily Beast’s Roger Sollenberger, he is being accused of sexual harassment by a former staffer for that campaign.
Schlapp is a prominent figure on the right. In addition to chairing the American Conservative Union since 2014 and co-leading the consulting firm Cove Strategies, Schlapp is the main organizer for the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) — which featured Hungarian strongman Viktor Orbán as a speaker at its Texas event in 2022.
According to Sollenberger, the ex-Walker staffer, a male, alleges that Schlapp made “sustained and unwanted and unsolicited” sexual contact with him in October when he was driving the conservative activist back from a bar in Atlanta. A Schlapp attorney is vehemently denying the ex-staffer’s allegations.
Sollenberger reports, “The staffer said the incident occurred the night of October 19, when Schlapp, chair of the American Conservative Union and lead organizer for the influential Conservative Political Action Conference, ‘groped’ and ‘fondled’ his crotch in his car against his will after buying him drinks at two different bars. The staffer described Schlapp, who had traveled to Georgia for a Walker campaign event, as inappropriately and repeatedly intruding into his personal space at the bars. He said he was also keenly aware of his ‘power dynamic’ with Schlapp, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in national conservative politics.”
The former staffer, interviewed by the Beast, alleged, “It was a public space, and I was thinking that he got the hint. I did not want to embarrass him. But it escalated.”
To its credit, the Walker campaign appeared to take this seriously, but they didn’t contact the media as they should have, or the police to have Schlapp arrested, as they should have.
Schlapp is a very powerful Republican. With all the chaos going on in the Republican party right now, the disunity and insanity and the lingering residue, like a slug’s slime trail, of Donald Trump, this could not have come at a better time. Republicans just keep digging their own holes in which to fall. (It’s just astonishing to me that they still use the Eau de Trump air spray scent in those sad holes.)
There are all kinds of proof that this incident with Schlapp happened with this Walker staffer/driver. Stay tuned. In the meantime, here is some more reading about the assault.
“This story is rock solid,” journalist Michelangelo Signorile tweeted on Thursday. “Schlapp has allowed the most horrific anti-LGBTQ bile at CPAC. Another GOP hypocrite.”
