Americans, we have two choices – repeal the 2nd amendment, or live with mass shootings and stop acting surprised, and stop complaining, when they happen. Because they will inevitably keep happening if nothing major changes with the US Constitution.
Repealing the 2nd amendment would be hard but it will be necessary to end the gun cult and gun worship in America. It could be done with planning and resolve, something the Democrats are not good at. It has to be done. Don’t take my word for it. Former Supreme Court Justice Steven Breyer said the same thing a few years ago.
Unfortunately Justice Breyer has passed away so there is no current SCOTUS justice to lead the charge. Someone from Congress or someone of equal status has to step up with this same suggestion and get the process started. It will take a long time to repeal an amendment.
It does little good to protest in America, especially when we have a Supreme Court that is so right-wing and biased, and they don’t listen to protesters. Neither does the media, or Congress, most of the time. So we have to sue gun manufacturers, and others who enable these massacres. We should also sue members of Congress who don’t want to change gun laws.
We definitely need to pressure members of the Senate and House to repeal the Second Amendment. The Constitution is not a holy book or an ancestral burial ground that can’t be touched. It’s a living document that has been routinely changed in the past, but lately has begun to stagnate. It needs to be changed, and not just regarding the 2nd amendment.
Here is his op-ed in the New York times. Click on the headline for the story.
Guns that existed when the Constitution was written were nothing like the guns we have now. Obviously, the founding fathers didn’t intend for everyone in the US to have a gun like an AR-15, or even many of the other guns that can be loaded with anything more than one bullet at a time.
In any case, the 2nd Amendment does not mean what people think it means. The NRA and other gun groups have totally bastardized the meaning of the amendment. At this point, it’s totally broken, and Republicans have fetishized the 2nd amendment. It must be repealed.
