First of all, I need to say that I despise Donald Trump. I absolutely hate him. There is no universe in which I would ever vote for him or anyone like him.
However, Joe Biden needs to be replaced as the Democratic candidate for president as soon as humanly possible.
It’s not just his support of Israel’s genocide, which is bad enough. We now have reason to believe that Biden isn’t “all there” anymore. If you saw the presidential debate last night on CNN (last night being June 27, 2024) then you probably had a similar reaction to mine. Yes Trump lied and behaved horribly during the debate (as expected) but he didn’t look 100 years old like Biden did. Since TV is a visual medium, how Biden came across visually really did matter, and he did not look good. He looked and acted like a man who was very old and had the beginnings (or middle) of serious cognitive problems. He could not argue or answer questions coherently. He trailed off, changed topics mid-sentence, and his voice sounded weak and reedy. He often gazed off into the distance with his mouth hanging open. I have never seen a debate performance worse than that of Joe Biden in last night’s debate.
The worst part of the debate was that probably about 100 million Americans watched it, and this is now how they will now think of Joe Biden, no matter what he does today or going forward. The decision today by Democrat pundits to circle the wagons around Biden is baffling. Do they really think this is how we defeat Donald Trump? We have a serious problem, why not solve it and just replace Biden at the convention? Why is that so hard to conceive of?
Listen to these podcasts from the Bulwark. They are done by very pro-Biden people but they know there is a problem and that Biden should be replaced. I can’t listen to another minute of pundits on TV or podcasts pretending like Biden just had a “bad debate”. That was not the case, especially since Joe Biden himself said later he thought he did fine.

Biden’s debate performance was beyond terrible. It might have been disqualifying. To all those Democratic spinmeisters telling us Biden is a wise old man at the top of his game, please stop insulting the intelligence and sensibilities of the American people. Acknowledge your mistake and act before it’s too late. By nominating Biden, Democrats will make Trump’s election much more likely. Stop blaming RFK Jr., Jill Stein and Cornel West for being spoilers. And apologize for smearing No Labels for attempting to offer up a centrist fusion ticket. It would have been refreshing to have an articulate, centrist alternative on that Atlanta debate stage. Instead, we got a depressing debate debacle. CNN’s Jake Tapper and Dana Bash deserve praise for how they moderated that debate. It’s not their job to fact check the candidates. It’s the job of the candidates to fact check each other in their responses. But Biden failed miserably to provide coherent responses to Trump’s many lies.

There are no doubt hundreds of podcasts and show clips today with people discussing this problem, the problem of Joe Biden being so selfish that he is running for a second term. That is how I view it. He is as selfish as Donald Trump and all Joe Biden seems to want at this point is power. He is not helping the country or putting America first, he is just after a second term for his “legacy”.
Biden can shout into microphones using teleprompters every day (like he did today) but that does in no way hide the fact that Joe Biden is in serious cognitive decline and needs to bow out of the race. Let someone else fight Donald Trump. We need the best and the brightest to fight Donald Trump. Not the oldest, feeblest man we can find.
The problem is Biden probably won’t bow out. You know the old AA adage: You can’t help an alcoholic unless they first admit they have a problem themselves. Joe Biden needs an intervention and he needs to admit he has a problem and then we need to solve the other problem of who should run in his place.
